ST Electronics wins taxi contract in UAE

/ Singapore (dpa) - The electronics arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering has won an 8-million-US-dollar contract to provide an advanced taxi despatch and management system in the United Arab Emirates, ST Electronics said on Tuesday. The contract is for the Sharjah Public Transport Corp, St Electronics' first taxi management system project in the UAE. It is based on St Electronics' automated system which integrates information communication technology, including wireless technology, automated booking and intelligent data mining for despatching taxis. 'With the implementation of this new system, passengers in Sharjah will enjoy better customer service and shorter waiting time,' said Abdullah Mohd Al-Zari, director-general of Sharjah Transport. More than 30,000 vehicles worldwide have been equipped with ST electronics products including Taiwan's first large-scale, fully automated taxi despatch system.
