Chief manager quits embattled oil major TNK-BP
Aug 4, 2008, 10:58 GMT
Moscow - A chief financial manager at oil major TNK-BP left his post on Monday, saying a public row between BP and its Russian shareholders had made his work impossible, the company said Monday.
In his resignation note, James Owen said, 'with the current shareholder issues remaining unresolved,' he felt it was 'difficult to continue working as independently as his position demands,' news agency Interfax cited a company statement.
Shareholders at TNK-BP, Russia's third largest producer, have been locked in a crippling management battle since last year, when Russian billionaire partners requested chief executive Robert Dudley's replacement.
Dudley, who is backed by BP and has refused to resign, fled Moscow last week charging harassment from Russian shareholders. He is running the oil firm from abroad.
Foreign investors have been closely watching the TNK-BP dispute trying to gauge the Russian government's role amid suspicions that recent legal enquiries preface a takeover by a Russian state-owned firm such as Gazprom.
