Tokyo stocks close at five-month low (Roundup)

Tokyo - Stocks in Tokyo closed on a five-month low Thursday on pessimistic economic sentiment.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average was down 131.93 points, or 1.04 per cent, at 12,557.66.
The broader Topix index of all first-section issues also fell 18.90 points, or 1.55 per cent, to 1,201.65.
The unclear political situation in Japan after this week's resignation of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda added to the worries.
On currency markets at midday (0300 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 108.81-08-13 yen, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 108.90-91 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.4495-98 dollars, up from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 1.4420-21 dollars, and at 156.70-75 yen, down from 157.04-08 yen.
