Santander to cut jobs in Britain next year
Dec 12, 2008, 15:30 GMT
London - Spanish banking giant Santander is to axe 1,900 jobs in its businesses in Britain next year, the company announced Friday.
The job cuts will affect staff at mortgage lenders Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley, which were taken over by Santander this year.
Compulsory redundancies have not been ruled out. The cuts at head offices of the businesses in London are equivalent to 8 per cent of Santander's workforce in Britain.
