Apr 14, 2009, 7:49 GMT
Beijing - Volkswagen's sales in China exceeded projections for the first quarter of 2009, the company announced Tuesday.
Volkswagen Group China said 284,143 vehicles were delivered to mainland and Hong Kong customers in the first quarter, an increase of 6 per cent year-on-year.
'The development of the total passenger car market in the first quarter has exceeded our expectations and we benefited successfully from this growth trend,' chief executive officer Winfried Vahland said.
In March, the group saw sales of over 100,000 units setting a new monthly record with its three locally produced brands, Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda.
The firm said it had adjusted its yearly forecast and raised its production planning by an additional 50,000 units.
