Shares fall sharply in Seoul

Seoul - Shares tumbled 2.4 per cent Thursday on the Seoul stock exchange on heavy institutional and foreign selling. South Korea's currency plunged against the dollar.
The benchmark Kospi index fell 33.57 points to close at 1,380.95.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers 552 to 272.
The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market edged up 0.83 points, or 0.15 per cent, to 536.78.
On currency markets, the US dollar was quoted at 1,267.20 Korean won, after 1,244.0 won on Wednesday.
