Jun 8, 2009, 10:40 GMT
New Delhi - India's stock markets slid nearly 3 per cent Monday on profit-taking by investors and negative global cues.
The 30-share Sensex index of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed with a loss of 437.63 points, down 2.90 per cent at 14,665.92.
The benchmark index slipped in afternoon trading with losses in real estate, infrastructure, metal and banking stocks.
The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was quoted at 4,429.90, a loss of 3.42 per cent.
Brokers said investors sold stocks to lock in profits from previous gains after other Asian bourses in Hongkong, Singapore and Taiwan fell.
