Jul 13, 2009, 1:14 GMT
Tokyo - The leading Japanese beverage giants Kirin Holdings and Suntory Holdings are in merger talks, local media reported Monday.
The move would help the companies to surviving in a shrinking market for their products at home, sources familiar with the matter were quoted as saying.
A merger would create the world's largest beverage concern with total revenues of 3.8 trillion yen (40.9 billion dollars).
