Jul 15, 2009, 9:43 GMT
Hong Kong - Hong Kong shares climbed by 2 per cent Wednesday, rising above 18,000 points to consolidate strong gains a day earlier.
The Hang Seng Index rose 372.93 points or 2.09 per cent to close at 18,258.66. Turnover was 60.6 billion Hong Kong dollars (7.8 billion US dollars.)
The surge in share prices, spurred by rising Wall Street prices, follows a 3.66 per cent jump in prices Tuesday that lifted the index off a seven-week low.
Shares in Air China rose by more than 7 per cent on the back of unexpectedly high profit forecasts while market heavyweight HSBC also posted strong gains for a second consecutive day.
