Italy to gain world's biggest rooftop solar plant
Jul 24, 2009, 12:38 GMT
Berlin - Italy is to obtain the world's biggest rooftop photovoltaic plant, with a Padua warehouse and truck-loading complex to generate its electricity from the sun, a Berlin manufacturer said Friday.
The company, Solon SE, is to supply 67,500 of its electricity- making modules for the huge roof, giving it output of up to 15 megawatts when the sun shines brightest.
Solon said that was equivalent to the nominal power needs of 5,000 households.
Mounting work at the Interporto di Padova is to begin in September. The modules are to be made in Carmigiano di Brenta in Italy by a subsidiary, Solon S.p.A.
The Berlin-based group, which had a dismal first quarter with manufacturing practically halted, has seen business pick up and announced three other sales earlier this month.
