Decline in Spanish consumer prices slows
Aug 28, 2009, 7:40 GMT
Madrid - Spain's recession-hit economy continued to show incipient signs of recovery on Friday, with the decline in consumer prices slowing down.
Spain's EU-harmonized consumer prices fell 0.8 per cent on the year in August, in their sixth consecutive month of decline, according to preliminary data issued by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The decline was, however, more moderate than in July, when consumer prices plunged by 1.4 per cent.
The economy contracted 1.1 per cent in the second quarter, an improvement from the 1.6 per cent drop in the first quarter, according to data issued Thursday.
