South Korean market shares rise 2 per cent

Seoul - Shares surged 2 per cent Tuesday on the Seoul stock exchange as rebounding Chinese stocks boosted market sentiment. South Korea's currency picked up against the dollar.
The benchmark Kospi index rose 31.21 points to a yearly high of 1,623.06. Advancing stocks outpaced losers 440 to 356.
The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market inched forward 1.57 points to 516.27.
On currency markets, the US dollar was quoted at 1,240.60 Korean won, after 1,248.90 won on Monday.
