Thai exports hit annual high in August

Bangkok - Thailand's exports reached 13.3 billion dollars in August, the highest level yet this year, the Commerce Ministry said Thursday.
August exports were up 2.9 per cent over July's figures, but still down 18.4 per cent year-on-year, Commerce Ministry Permanent Secretary Siriporn Yotmuangcharoen said.
Imports reached 11.2 billion dollars, down 8.2 per cent compared with July and a 32.6-per-cent decline year-on-year.
For the first eight months of 2009, Thailand's total exports reached 94.4 billion dollars, down 23.1 per cent compared with the same period in 2008, while imports were 80.6 billion dollars, down 34.6 per cent.
