Taiwan's consumer price index drops 0.86 per cent in September
Oct 5, 2009, 10:28 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan's consumer price index (CPI) dropped 0.86 per cent year-on-year in September, driven down by falling oil and entertainment prices, the government statistics agency said Monday.
'Compared with the same month last year, oil prices went down by 7.64 per cent, resulting in the general fall of transport prices in September,' the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said in a statement.
Prices for entertainment, consumer electronics products and overseas travel all dropped because of slow demand brought about by the global downturn, it said.
Compared with August, the CPI went down 0.65 per cent, due mainly to the drop of food and electricity prices, the agency said.
