Taipei to lure Macau tourists with steaming beef noodles

Taipei - Taipei will try to lure tourist from Macau with steaming and spicy beef noodles next week, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin said Friday. As part of the ongoing fifth Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival, the Taipei City Government will hold a Taipei Beef Noodle Carnival at the Fishermen's Wharf in Macau, China's former Portuguese colony near Hong Kong, October 15-18, Hau said. Taipei will send chefs from nearly two dozen prize-winning beef noodle restaurants to Macau to set up stalls to cook steaming beef noodles, and serve them to Macau residents, he added. Taiwan products and souvenirs will also be sold during the carnival, he added. 'Beef noodle festival has become an important part of Taipei's gourmet culture. We want to introduce beef noodle to Macau residents and foreigners in Macau,' he said. 'If you can win over someone's stomach, you can win over his heart. I hope by expanding the Taipei beef noodle festival to Macau, we can attract many tourists to Taipei,' he added. Taipei held its first international beef noodle festival in 2005 for Taiwan residents to vote for the best beef noodle restaurant in Taipei.
