OECD economies expanded modestly in third quarter
Nov 23, 2009, 10:20 GMT
Paris - The collective gross domestic product (GDP) of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) members rose by 0.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2009 compared to the previous quarter, the organization said Monday.
That follows five consecutive quarters in which the 30 OECD economies either contracted or remained stagnant.
The improvement was led by Japan, which registered GDP growth of 1.2 per cent in the quarter.
Of the so-called Major Seven OECD economies, only Britain recorded a drop in GDP, down 0.4 per cent, the sixth consecutive quarter that the British economy has contracted.
