National Australia Bank silent on Northern Rock bid
Jan 4, 2010, 7:32 GMT
Sydney - National Australia Bank (NAP) refused comment Monday on reports that it was a suitor in the international contest to snare stricken British lender Northern Rock.
The London-based Observer newspaper said NAB had engaged advisers for a possible bid to buy the first British casualty of the credit crisis.
Northern Rock was nationalized in February because the British government deemed it could not cope with the higher cost of borrowing attendant on the global financial crisis.
