Jan 12, 2010, 11:36 GMT
Seville, Spain - European planemaker Airbus said Tuesday it had delivered 498 aircraft last year as a result beating the record set in 2008.
The total deliveries in 2009 was 15 more than in 2008, said Airbus.
But the group's production last year came in at 5 per cent lower than what Airbus had targeted for the year.
'The crisis year 2009 was a successful year for us,' said Airbus chief Thomas Enders.
'This year we want to reach a production level somewhat higher than 2008 and 2009,' said Enders. Airbus said it gained 310 orders last year.
But despite Airbus' increased deliveries the group's parent, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company reported Tuesday that its 2009 turnover slipped to an estimated 41.7 billion euros (60.5 billion dollars).
