Delta Air Lines recovers but remains in red
Jan 26, 2010, 19:22 GMT
New York - Delta Air Lines continued to post losses, but showed a sluggish recovery in the fourth quarter, the world's largest airline by passenger volume said Tuesday.
'2009 was a difficult year,' chief executive Richard Anderson said in Atlanta.
Passengers cut down on travel due to the global economic crisis, while freight operations also fell even as Delta was completing its 2008 merger with competitor Northwest.
In the last quarter of 2009, Delta posted a loss of 25 million dollars, a figure which would have been even larger without tax rebates.
In the same period a year earlier, however, Delta had lost 1,4 billion dollars. At the time, the airline had to spend almost 1 billion dollars in the integration of Northwest.
Revenue rose 1 per cent to 6.81 billion dollars for the quarter.
