2009 saw largest air traffic decline since 1945

Geneva - Last year saw the 'largest ever' decline in scheduled international air traffic since the end of World War II, an industry group said Wednesday.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said passenger demand fell 3.5 while freight plummeted 10.1 per cent over the full-year.
Yields for airlines have started to improve in recent months, however, the data showed, as tighter supply-demand conditions came into effect.
'The industry starts 2010 with some enormous challenges. The worst is behind us, but it is not time to celebrate,' the head of IATA, Giovanni Bisignani, said in a statement.
IATA said increased security costs, in part as a result of the attempt to blow up a plane over the United States on Christmas Day, would also present a challenge for the industry.
