French railway workers to strike late Tuesday
Feb 2, 2010, 15:40 GMT
Paris - Long-suffering French train passengers are set to go through a 36-hour strike when railway workers walk off their jobs late Tuesday.
The job action was called by trade unions to protest the loss of jobs and a restructuring of the freight division of the national rail network SNCF.
The SNCF said that about one of three scheduled high-speed TGV trains will not be operating during the strike. Regional and suburban train service is expected to be cut by half on average.
However, international trains, such as the Eurostar linking Paris and London, will not be affected by the strike, the SNCF said.
