Samsung, Sharp agree on cross-licencing deal
Feb 8, 2010, 11:20 GMT
Seoul - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co said Monday it concluded a cross-licencing deal with its Japanese competitor Sharp Corp, ending patent disputes in liquid crystal display (LCD) technology.
Samsung, the world's largest maker of LCDs and televisions said both parties agreed Friday to share patents over LCD panel and module technology, giving each firm access to patents owned by the other company.
All disputes pertaining to the technology are to end with the agreement, Samsung said.
The two companies had been embroiled in a three-year patent dispute. In December, Samsung filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) against Sharp over alleged patent violations.
One month earlier, the ITC ruled that Samsung had violated Sharp's patents, and issued a US import ban against relevant products of the South Korean firm.
