Energy giant EDF books healthy profits rise in 2009
Feb 11, 2010, 9:48 GMT
Paris - French energy supplier EDF said Thursday that its profits for 2009 were up 12.1 per cent, to 3.9 billion euros (5.37 billion dollars), compared to the previous year.
Turnover rose a more modest 3.9 per cent, to 66.336 billion euros, due in large part to an expansion of its international businesses, such as its acquisition of British Energy, the company said in a press statement.
Earnings for EDF's International and Other Activities rose by 9.3 per cent, to 29.58 billion euros, boosted by a rise of 33.9 per cent in turnover, to 11.036 billion euros, by the company's British interests.
'After a generally solid year for the group despite an exceptionally difficult situation in France, EDF aims to improve its operational performances in 2010,' company head Henri Proglio said.
To that end, EDF will look to reinforce its management 'of its high-priority geographic markets,' he added.
The EDF share price rose on publication of the results, up by 3.52 per cent, to 39.70 euros, in morning trading on the Paris Bourse.
