Changi Airport reports 21-per-cent increase in passenger traffic
Mar 25, 2010, 9:39 GMT
Singapore - Passenger traffic at Singapore's Changi Airport grew by 21.5 per cent in February from the same month a year ago to 3.11 million passengers, the most traffic seen at the airport in six years, the facility's operator said Thursday.
Changi Airport Group attributed the increase to the Lunar New Year holidays and the Singapore Airshow.
Passenger traffic on both full-service carriers and low-cost carriers grew with traffic on the former increasing by 12.8 per cent, the first double-digit increase since the worldwide economic downturn began in 2008.
All of Changi's top 10 country markets registered year-on-year growth with particularly strong passenger growth on routes to and from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and China.
Cargo and air-freight movements at Changi in February increased 16.2 per cent to 130,578 tons.
Aircraft movements increased 11.4 per cent year-on-year to 19,617 during the month. Low-cost carriers accounted for almost 28 per cent of all flights during the month.
Changi Airport is served by 84 airlines operating flights to about 200 cities in about 60 countries and territories.
