Directors Ridley and Tony Scott surprise suitors for MGM

Los Angeles - Director Brothers Ridley and Tony Scott have emerged as surprise suitors for the hallowed Hollywood studio Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer, having submitted a plan to restructure the studio, the Financial Times reported Friday.
The brothers, who between them are responsible for Alien, Top Gun and Gladiator, hope to revive the studio which owns the rights to the James Bond series but which is struggling under a 3.7-billion-dollar debt burden and is in the hands of creditors.
Previous attempts to auction off the studio failed to attract sufficiently high bids, and the company's creditors are now leaning instead towards a debt-for-equity swap and an injection of new capital to create a standalone company with a reduced debt burden.
The report said it was unclear exactly what role the Scotts would play in the new studio. But it said that other well-known Hollywood figures like Jonathan Dolgen and Roger Birnbaum, chief executive of Spyglass Entertainment, were also being considered for major roles in the restructured company.
