Japan's machinery orders up in March
May 17, 2010, 14:45 GMT
Tokyo - Japan's core private-sector machinery orders rose a seasonally adjusted 5.4 per cent from February to 732.9 billion yen (7.95 billion dollars) in March, the first increase in three months, the government said Monday.
Orders from manufacturers climbed 3.1 per cent to 316.5 billion yen, and those from non-manufacturers jumped 12.6 per cent to 443.1 billion yen, the Cabinet Office said.
Core machinery orders, which exclude volatile ones such as those for ships and from electric utilities, are considered to be a leading indicator of corporate capital spending.
