Jul 13, 2010, 15:55 GMT
Berlin - German engineering giant Siemens is to sign a multi-billion euro deal with Russian state railways for the supply of regional trains, government sources in Berlin said Tuesday.
The deal, worth 2.2 billion euros (2.78 billion dollars), will be inked by Chancellor Angela Merkel and Siemens Chief Executive Peter Loescher in Russia later this week.
Siemens is to supply regional locomotives and carriages. A precise number for the order has not been confirmed by the company, but government sources speaking on condition that they not be named said the order was in the region of 240 units.
The deal is the second large contract won by Siemens in Russia this year, with 221 locomotives having been sold in Russia in May.
