Taiwan TSMC's quarterly profits jump nearly 65 per cent

Taipei - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip maker, said Thursday its profits jumped 64.8 per cent on surging sales.
TSMC said net income in the quarter reached 40.28 billion Taiwan dollars (1.3 billion US dollars), coming on sales revenues of 104.96 billion Taiwan dollars, up 41.4 per cent year-on-year.
In the second quarter, demand for TSMC's wafers continued to be strong, and wafer shipments in all major semiconductor market segments increased from their first quarter levels, it added.
Established in 1987, TSMC is the world's largest semiconductor maker and has production sites in Taiwan, the United States, Singapore and China.
