Aug 3, 2010, 6:36 GMT
Hanoi Vietnam, the world's second-largest rice exporter after Thailand, exported 3.93 million tons of rice valued at 1.7 billion dollars for the first seven months of the year, officials said Tuesday.
The Philippines is the largest of Vietnam's 18 rice customer nations, ordering 1.78 million tons worth 820 million dollars in the period from January to July. Around half the rice imported to the Philippines comes from Vietnam.
Rice prices rebounded in the Mekong Delta thanks to a plan to stockpile stores from July 15 until November 11.
The government projected total exports for 2010 to be as high as 6.4 million tons. In 2009, Vietnam exported 6.05 million tons of rice for 2.46 billion dollars, second only to Thailand.
