Tokyo - Japan's core private-sector machinery orders rose a seasonally adjusted 1.6 per cent in June to 704 billion yen (8.25 billion dollars), the government said Wednesday.
They exclude volatile orders such as those for ships and from electric utilities.
Orders from manufacturers jumped 9.9 per cent from the previous month to 281.6 billion yen, supported by gains in ship building, foods and beverages, and petroleum and coal products, while those from non-manufacturers declined 3.9 per cent to 419.2 billion yen, the Cabinet Office said.
