Czech economy grows 2.2 per cent in second quarter
Aug 13, 2010, 9:07 GMT
Prague - The Czech Republic's economy grew 2.2 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2010, according to the Czech Statistics Office's preliminary estimate released Friday.
Compared to the previous quarter, the seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.8 per cent, the office said.
The second-quarter growth came on the back of a rise in manufacturing, transport and services, the statisticians said.
This year's recovery of the Czech export-driven economy has been mostly fuelled by rising exports, analysts have said.
The Czech Republic was not hit by the meltdown on the world's financial markets, but its economy suffered in 2009 amid a drop in demand from its markets, chiefly the eurozone. Roughly one-third of Czech exports heads to neighbouring Germany.
