Taiwan consumer price inflation down 0.46 per cent in August
Sep 6, 2010, 10:57 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan's consumer price index dropped 0.46 per cent year-on-year in August due mainly to relatively cheaper vegetable and fruit prices, the government said Monday.
Fresh produce prices skyrocketed in August 2009 after a typhoon lashed the island, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said.
But compared with July, the index inched up 0.02 per cent in August as food costs increased during the traditional 'Ghost Month,' when fruit and other food items were in strong demand as offerings to the deceased, it said.
