Polish gas monopoly warns of industry shortages
Sep 20, 2010, 15:05 GMT
Warsaw - Poland's largest gas monopoly, PGNiG, warned of gas shortages for industry clients this autumn if Warsaw fails to sign a deal with Russia on increasing deliveries.
The shortages in late October would not effect individual clients, hospitals or heating plants, said Michal Szubski, president of the state-owned company.
Russian Gazprom and PGNiG have finalised a deal to extend a 1993 agreement until 2037 and enlarge gas deliveries from 7.5 to 10.3 billion cubic meters.
The agreement was not signed, however, because of concerns from the European Commission about supervising the deliveries to ensure that all markets have equal access to the supplies.
