London Tube strike hits commuters for second time in four weeks
Oct 4, 2010, 8:24 GMT
London - Public transport in London was severely disrupted Monday due to a 24-hour strike by drivers and other staff on the Tube, London's underground commuter system.
Transport for London said most Tube lines were suspended and a quarter of all stations closed. Commuters used cars, buses, taxis, river boats and bicycles to beat the strike.
The two unions involved, the RMT and the TSSA, said the protest is against planned cuts of 800 staff, mainly at ticket offices and on station platforms.
The strike is the second within the last four weeks. The strike began at 1800 GMT Sunday, meaning it should end later Monday.
