Taipei - Taiwan's export orders rose 16.68 per cent year-on-year in September, bolstered by strong demand for electronics and telecommunication products, the Economics Ministry said Wendesday.
Orders for September totaled 35.98 billion US dollars, up 5.14 billion US dollars from the same period last year, it said.
The ministry said orders for telecommunication products increased 1.71 billion US dollars, or 22.17 per cent, compared with September 2009. Orders for electronics products rose 1.22 billion US dollars, or 15.84 per cent compared to the same month a year ago.
China remained Taiwan's largest buyer, ordering 9.2 billion US dollars worth of products, accounting for 25.6 per cent of total export orders received by the island.
The United States followed with 7.7 billion US dollars, accounting for 21.4 per cent of total orders, while Europe accounted for 6.9 billion US dollars, or 19.4 per cent, the ministry said.
Export orders reflect shipments in the next three months, and are a key economic indicator.
