Taipei - Taiwan computer giant Acer Inc plans to build a second manufacturing centre in China, the company said Wednesday.
The new facility in the city of Chongqing in east-central China would follow the company's factory in Shanghai.
'The move is expected to enhance Acer's presence in China, boost its global competitiveness and strengthen its leadership in the PC [personal computer] market,' the company said in a statement.
The contract between Acer and the Chongqing city government was to be signed in December, the statement said.
Founded in 1976, the world's second-largest manufacturer of personal computers, has said it aims to overtake US rival Hewlett-Packard Co to claim the top spot.
