Rolls-Royce makes no comment on engine swap reports
Nov 18, 2010, 12:46 GMT
London - Rolls-Royce declined to comment on reports Thursday that around 40 of its Trent 900 engines would have to be replaced following an oil fire on a Qantas A380 Airbus on November 4.
A spokesman in London said he had 'no comment' to make on the reports. The engine manufacturer had said in a statement last Friday that its 'process of inspection' would be 'supplemented by the replacement of the relevant module according to an agreed programme.'
The fault discovered on the Qantas A380 after its emergency landing in Singapore was found to be 'specific to the Trent 900.'
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said in Sydney on Thursday that Rolls-Royce had indicated that about 40 A380 engines would need to be exchanged worldwide, including 14 in the Australian airline's currently grounded fleet of six A380s.
'Rolls-Royce are still working through the criteria for which engines need to be changed,' Joyce told reporters.
