Dec 1, 2010, 8:08 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan computer maker Acer Inc signed a deal Wednesday with Chinese authorities to operate a second factory in China.
The agreement was signed by Acer chief executive Gianfranco Lanci and the government of Chongqing city in east-central China, Acer said in a statement. The Chongqing facility is to become Acer's second Chinese manufacturing base after its factory in Shanghai.
Lanci said Acer has invested 150 million US dollars to build the manufacturing centre in Chongqing.
'The move is expected to enhance Acer's presence in China, boost its global competitiveness and strengthen its leadership in the PC [personal computer] market,' the statement quoted Lanci as saying.
Founded in 1976, the world's second-largest manufacturer of personal computers, has said it aims to overtake US rival Hewlett-Packard Co to claim the top spot.
