Manila - The Philippines unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 per cent in October compared with the same month last year, the government said Wednesday.
The National Statistics Office said the actual number of unemployed workers at the end of October was 2.8 million, up from 2.7 million recorded last year.
The agency, which conducts a quarterly labour survey, said the country's labour force rose to 39.3 million from 38.2 million for the same period.
The total number of employed people in October was 36.5 million, but 7.1 million of them are underemployed or were looking for additional jobs, the office said.
President Benigno Aquino III, who took office in June, vowed to intensify the government's efforts to boost the economy to generate more jobs.
