Daimler expects production to hit record high in 2010

Dec 17, 2010, 17:07 GMT

Stuttgart, Germany - German car giant Daimler AG expects its production to hit a record high this year, the company said Friday, amid strong demand for the group's flagship Mercedes Benz cars.

The Stuttgart-based automotive group expects to have produced more than 1.2 million vehicles when this year comes to an end, breaking its last record of 1.19 million set in the boom year 2008.

Daimler produced 914,900 vehicles in 2009 as the recession plunged the global car industry into a crisis.

'Our production side has been running at full speed during the second half (of 2010)' said Daimler board member Wolfgang Bernhard.

Daimler has already raised its profit forecast three times this year as strong demand in the US and emerging economies boost sales of the group's luxury Mercedes Benz cars.
