Feb 17, 2011, 7:48 GMT
Bangkok - Thailand's automobile production jumped 40.81 per cent year-on-year in January to reach 146,234 units, spurred on by exports and a healthy domestic economy, industry sources said Thursday.
Exports in January hit 68,046 units, up 16.27 per cent, said Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman for the automobile group of the Federation of Thai Industries.
He said the sector was expected to produce 1.8 million vehicles this year, of which 1 million would be destined for export.
Most large Japanese automotive manufacturers have plants in Thailand, under various agreements with Bangkok.
