Feb 28, 2011, 8:23 GMT
Singapore - Singapore received a record number of visitors in January as arrivals climbed 16 per cent year-on-year to reach 1.05 million visitors, the city-state's tourism board said Monday.
Hotel room revenue was estimated at 176 million Singapore dollars (138.4 million US dollars) for the month, up 26 per cent from a year ago, the previous record for January, the board said.
Singapore's tourism sector was boosted by the opening of two casino resorts last year after the government lifted a 40-year ban on gambling.
