Renewed rail strike to hit Germany early Friday
Mar 3, 2011, 17:17 GMT
Frankfurt - German train drivers on Thursday announced their third strike in two weeks, expected to cause serious rail disruption Friday morning.
The industrial action is set to begin at 8:30am (0730 GMT) and last three hours, rail drivers' union GDL said. State-owned Deutsche Bahn and six private rail operators will be affected.
The strikers are demanding that rail companies accept a nationwide collective labour contract for 26,000 drivers, regardless of which rail company for which they work.
Currently, unions negotiate separately with Deutsche Bahn and with commercial rail operators. Most commercial operators pay drivers less than Deutsche Bahn does.
Similar strikes on Tuesday and Thursday of the previous week led to delays in intercity trains and commuter travel across the country.
