Frankfurt - Adam Opel AG, the German offshoot of the US car giant General Motors, on Thursday named Karl-Friedrich Stracke as its new chief executive.
Stracke, 54, is to take over from Nick Reilly who helped to spearhead the restructuring of the Opel group.
Reilly will continue to head GM Europe with overall responsibility for the group's Opel, Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands.
Stracke takes up his new post on April 1 and will have responsibility for the Opel and Vauxhall brand cars.
'The European market and our European operations are important to General Motors, and these moves will ensure that we have the best leadership in place as we continue toward growth and profitability,' said GM chief Dan Akerson in a statement.
