Thailand to nominate Ayuthaya as World Expo contender

Bangkok - Thailand will nominate the ancient capital of Ayuthaya as a possible site for World Expo 2020, media reports said Tuesday.
The Thai cabinet on Monday approved a 300-million-baht (10- million-dollar) budget to promote Ayuthaya, which will be competing with other well-known cities including Sao Paolo, Guangdong, Copenhagen, Ankara, Cape Town and Dubai, the Bangkok Post reported.
Thailand Convention Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) predicted that the expo could draw 36.99 million visitors and generate expo income of 61.8 billion baht (2.1 billion) dollars if Ayuthaya were chosen to host the event.
Ayuthaya, situated about 90 kilometres north of Bangkok, was Thailand's capital between 1350 to 1767.
