Vodafone profits rise on smartphone success
May 17, 2011, 7:29 GMT
London - Telecommunication firm Vodafone Tuesday reported an annual profit of 9.5 billion pounds (15.4 billion dollars) for the year ending on March 31, according to results published in London.
Vodafone said a surge in demand for smartphones and better-than-expected growth in Britain had helped boost profits.
It also reported a strong performance in emerging markets, such as South Africa and India, where profits rose by around 9 per cent.
However, the mobile phone giant said it expected a lower outcome in the current financial year due to tough trading conditions Europe.
