US-Business/ Intel posts record revenue
Jul 20, 2011, 21:01 GMT
San Francisco - Computer chip maker Intel posted record revenue of 13.1 billion dollars on Tuesday, crediting strong corporate demand, a surge of mobile devices and the rise of computing in emerging markets.
The world's largest chip-maker said that net profits were 3.2 billion dollars, up 10 per cent from the year-ago period, while revenues jumped 22 per cent.
'We achieved a significant new milestone in the second quarter, surpassing 13 billion dollars in revenue for the first time,' said Paul Otellini, Intel president and chief executive.
'Strong corporate demand for our most advanced technology, the surge of mobile devices and Internet traffic fueling data centre growth, and the rapid rise of computing in emerging markets drove record results. Intel's 23-per-cent revenue growth in the first half and our increasing confidence in the second half of 2011 position us to grow annual revenue in the mid-20-per-cent range.'
