Samsung moves to block new iPhone in France, Italy
Oct 5, 2011, 10:00 GMT
Seoul - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co on Wednesday said it had taken legal action to block the sale of the latest iPhone in France and Italy.
Samsung in an online statement claimed US-based Apple Inc violated two of its patents regarding wireless telecommunications technology in the design of the iPhone 4S.
'Samsung believes that Apple's violation as being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales,' it said.
The company was to file both injunctions with courts in Paris, France and Milan, Italy on Wednesday, it said.
The statement was made a day after Apple unveiled the latest generation of its successful smart-phone series.
The iPhone 4S was scheduled for release October 14 in the United States and several other countries, including France, and in Italy October 28.
In September, Apple won a temporary ban on sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 computer in Germany because of design similarities with its own tablet computer, the iPad.
