Boeing delivers new 747 cargoliner
Oct 12, 2011, 19:29 GMT
Seattle - Boeing delivered its latest aircraft Wednesday after solving a dispute over the 747-8 freighter with Luxembourg-based carrier Cargolux, the companies said in a statement.
The delivery comes just three weeks after Cargolux cancelled its contract with Boeing, citing an efficiency problem with the plane's engines which allegedly fell 2.7 per cent short of the promised 15 per cent improvement in efficiency.
It is unclear how the dispute was resolved but the new airliner painted with the Cargolux logo left Boeing's airfield Monday and was due to pick up its first load of cargo at Seattle's main airport. A second 747-8 was due to be delivered on Thursday.
'I'm happy to announce that we've resolved the contractual issues that delayed the first delivery of our new 747-8 last month,' said Randy Tinseth, vice president of marketing for Boeing's commercial-airliner unit, in a blog post Wednesday. 'Even though we had to wait a bit longer than expected, it doesn't make these deliveries any less sweet.'
