Singapore - Singapore's tourism sector was on track for another record year after posting strong growth in the first six months 2011, government data showed Monday.
Visitor arrivals from January to June reached 6.4 million, up 15 per cent from the same period last year, the Tourism Board said.
Tourism receipts including accommodation, sightseeing, shopping, food and entertainment were estimated at 11 billion Singapore dollars (8.65 billion US dollars) in the first half of the year, a growth of 32 per cent year-on-year, it said.
Spurred by the opening of two large casino resorts, Singapore in 2010 welcomed a record 11.6 million visitors while tourism receipts hit an all-time high of 18.8 billion Singapore dollars.
The government said it expected visitor arrivals to reach 12 to 13 million in 2011 with tourism receipts likely to come up to 22 to 24 billion Singapore dollars.
